Wine Enthusiast 91 points - Aromas of woodland berry, forest floor, spice and a toasted note lead the nose of this blend of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot. The elegantly structured palate offers dried black cherry, licorice, clove and espresso alongside tightly knit but polished tannins. Drink 2017-2027..Kerin O'Keefe, September/2015
Wine Advocate 90 points - Last year, this wine was a Riserva (now it is a Gran Selezione). The 2012 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Riserva di Fizzano shows ample fullness and ripeness with dark cherry and spice aromas that are both compelling and generous. This wine shows a good sense of lightness and balance. It is easy to drink and approachable, but it also offers bigger structure to pair with succulent meat dishes..Monica Larner, October/2015
Produced with grapes exclusively from the Fizzano vineyard, the property of Rocca delle Macie.
The grapes destined for the Riserva di Fizzano are carefully selected at the optimum moment of the vintage and the vinification of this riserva only happens in exceptional years. After the traditional fermentation the wine is matured in French oak barrels for over two years, then bottled and refined for almost a year before being released.13% abv
Serve at a temperature of 65° 68° F. This bottle should be opened in advance and allowed to breathe, or preferably, decanted. It is a wine to be classified as "de meditazione”, and particularly compliments red meat, roast and game dishes.
